Pile lifting is a process usually associated with restorative cleaning. It is used to lift crushed and matted nap to allow for a more thorough cleaning. At Flooring Warranty Services we use the pile lifter to raise generally crushed nap from new carpet to give it a more uniform appearance. Besides roll crush the nap gets compressed when rolled up prior to shipping. In some carpet this can appear as side-match problems or a general lack of uniformity.

Roll crush generates many complaints. Most dealers and installers are well versed in the response to this complaint. Roll crush is caused by the weight of the carpet compressing that portion of the nap on the bottom of the roll. It appears usually as one or more widthwise bands repeating at increasing intervals. Remember that carpet is a textile product and normal shipping and handling will create temporary changes to the nap. Steaming and grooming of the carpet will correct simple roll crush.
